Devil’s Nose

The train crossing to the “NARÍZ DEL DIABLO” is one of the most spectacular trips in the world.
In Alausí, here begins the electrifying descent (13Km) by the nose of the devil, masterpiece of engineering (1903), sculpted in the high craggy mountains. This incredible railway work allows you to descend in zig – zag from 2600 m to 1800 m, moving back and forth, furrowing the flanks by impressive precipices and beautiful and picking up landscapes crossed by the torrential river Chanchan, until you reach the Pistishí station.

Ozogoche’s lagoon

The lake system of Ozogoche, formed by more than 40 lagoons of different sizes and shapes, is located southeast of the province of Chimborazo, in the foothills of the Cordillera Real, in the Alausi canton, Achupallas parish, 40km from the city of Alausi They are located between 3400m.s.m. and 4800m.s.m., with an average temperature of 8 ° C.
The lagoons have an impressive framework, full of natural vegetation typical of the Andean forest and its characteristic fauna.
Every year, at the end of September, an unusual natural event occurs, flocks of migratory birds called CUVIVIS cross over and plunge into the frozen waters of the lagoons, in a collective suicide. The indigenous people of the locality call it “EL TRIBUTO”.

Inca’s way

From the Achupallas parish (3700 m) located 30 minutes from the city of Alausí, the journey begins along the Inca trail, through a landscape of dream and natural beauty, beautiful and mysterious lagoons in a 22 km route. Foot or horse to the prehistoric architectural complex of Inca origin INGAPIRCA (3120 m).


It is an indigenous community belonging to the parish LA MATRIZ, canton Alausí and 20 minutes by land transport. The villagers belong to the KICHWA community and are defined as brave defenders of their culture and territories. The climate oscillates 8 ° C to 9 ° C, at a height of 2523 m .
They are creators of handicrafts especially of cabuya fiber with which shigras, pulceras and sombreros are made

Chicho Negro’s petrified giant shells

Located in the commune CHICHO NEGRO, canton Alausí, province of Chimborazo, at an altitude of 3665 m. It is estimated that these petrified shells, in a number of 7 and spread over a 2 km area, would be millions of years old, when the planet was covered in water.


Population located 45 minutes from Alausí by land at 1255 m. along the banks of the Chanchan River and settled next to the railroad pass. It enjoys a kind and healthy temperate subtropical climate that oscillates between 16 ° C and 26 ° C, surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Due to its strategic location, the main camp for the construction of the southern railroad was established at the beginning of the last century, forming a population with homes in the purest American style.

Ruins of Ingapirca

Monumental archaeological site, located 90 km south of Alausi, and which still exists as one of the most important evidences of the Aboriginal History of the Cañarí and Inca peoples. This important archaeological center was built with stones perfectly carved and joined with natural mortar. Of elliptical structure, this Temple of the Sun served for the realization of ceremonies and rituals of the Cañarí-Inca culture. It also had strategic-military purposes. The ruins are integrated by a cemetery, solar observatories, roads, warehouses, priests’ apartments and an indigenous plaza, among others.
